Chinese badminton star Shi Yuqi married e-sports streamer Jiang Dan on Nov. 1 in his hometown of Nantong, Jiangsu province, in a private ceremony that quickly drew public attention when guests shared photos and videos on Chinese social media.
Wedding Reception Performance to Mayday Song
During the reception, Shi donned an elegant suit and took the microphone alongside his bride to perform “Love ING,” an upbeat love song by the Taiwanese rock band Mayday. The musical duet transformed the wedding celebration into an impromptu concert, prompting fans on social media to dub the 30-year-old athlete the “singing king of the Chinese badminton team.”
Music Career and Prior Musical Ventures
The reception performance followed several prior musical ventures by the former world number one. In November 2025, Shi released the track “Fearless,” marking his entry into the music industry. He followed up in February 2026 with “Overcoming Adversity,” a song he co-wrote with friends.
Shi explained that the second track drew inspiration from the professional pressures and mixed emotions he experienced after the 2024 World Tour Finals. His musical pursuits also extend to television and live appearances; in February 2026, during the Weibo Night event, an host invited him to perform an impromptu a cappella verse of the English ballad “You Raise Me Up.”
Longstanding Connection Through Song
Music has played a consistent role in the couple’s relationship. According to Chinese media reports, Shi previously serenaded Jiang with the song “I Truly Love You” during an online livestream celebrating her birthday. The wedding duet served as a musical continuation of a courtship where song figured prominently.
Current Badminton Ranking and Health Status
On the international badminton circuit, Shi captured the men’s singles world championship in 2025 and reached the number one global ranking. He is currently taking a break from tournament competition under a protected ranking arrangement for health reasons, stepping away from the court while continuing his sideline in vocal performance.
