National Revolutionary Base Areas Basketball Invitational Tournament Kicks Off in Bazhong

The “YangBA” National Revolutionary Base Key Cities Basketball Invitational kicked off at the YangBA Basketball Court in Nanjiang County, Bazhong City, bringing together teams from historic revolutionary regions including Yan’an and Yimeng to compete in five-legged basketball matches.

Six Teams Gather in Nanjiang for Regional Tournament

Basketball squads from across China’s historic revolutionary base areas assembled in Bazhong’s Nanjiang County for the opening of the invitational tournament. Organized by the Nanjiang County Culture, Broadcast Television, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the event features six competitive teams: the Zhidan Team from Yan’an, the Red Yimeng Team from Linyi, the Dongyang Team from Zhejiang, the Gongxian Team from Yibin, the Pingchang Culture and Tourism Group Team, and the local Bazhong YangBA Team.

Tournament Structure and Group Stage Formats

Competition organizers structured the tournament around five-player basketball rules using a “single round-robin plus positional playoff” format. The six participating squads were drawn into Group A and Group B, with three teams assigned to each group for preliminary round-robin matches. Following the group stage, teams advance to classification matches where the first-place finishers from Groups A and B compete for the championship, the second-place teams play for third and fourth place, and the third-place teams meet to decide fifth and sixth place.

Local Officials Link Sports Event to Rural Revitalization

Local authorities stated that the tournament serves as a platform to leverage red cultural resources and strengthen connections between historic revolutionary base cities. According to the Nanjiang County Culture, Broadcast Television, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the event operates under the guiding principle of using sports as a foundation for cultural and tourism activities. Organizers aim to integrate sports, culture, tourism, agriculture, and commerce to draw visitors, boost local consumption, expand revenue streams for residents, and support ongoing rural revitalization efforts in the region.
