Pingjiang hosts 2026 Hunan County BA basketball league

On October 24, the 2026 Hunan “County BA” basketball league officially tipped off at the Yihua Gymnasium in Pingjiang, a county in northern Hunan province, featuring 13 county and city delegations across the province in a tournament running through October 30.

Opening Night Matchup Between Pingjiang and Anxiang

The tournament opened with a game between host Pingjiang and opponents from Changde’s Anxiang. Before the opening whistle, Pingjiang players handed the Anxiang delegation local snack gift packages featuring traditional spiced snacks, introducing their regional culinary industry before play began. Liu Xiao, former vice chairman of the provincial committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and honorary chairman of the provincial basketball association, declared the tournament open. Provincial sports bureau deputy director Fei Bo delivered remarks, and Yueyang vice mayor Zhang Shiyu tossed the ceremonial opening ball.

Pingjiang Leverages Sports History to Host Event

The selection of Pingjiang as host follows years of grassroots sports development in the county. The venue has previously hosted events including the National “Run, Youth” initiative, the 22nd Senior Games of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi border region, and provincial youth rock climbing championships. Pingjiang holds national designations as an advanced county for mass sports and a typical county for county-level football. Local participation is strong, anchored by an amateur weekend basketball league that has run for 13 seasons, drawing players from government offices, returning youth, and local residents.

Economic Impact and Local Industry Sponsorship

Scheduled to run across 31 matches through October 30, the tournament expects to draw approximately 100,000 spectators to live games. Organizers paired the athletic schedule with the 2026 Pingjiang Chrysanthemum Straw Art Festival and a spicy food culinary carnival. Local snack enterprises, including Jinzai Food and Mala Wangzi, backed the event as sponsors, while area tourist attractions offered ticket discounts and retail promotions for visiting team members and spectators.
