Bayer Leverkusen forward Patrik Schick has scored seven goals in the German Bundesliga, holding the second spot in the league’s scoring charts behind Werder Bremen forward Niclas Füllkrug. Schick’s early-season form places him ahead of Harry Kane as Leverkusen prepares for upcoming domestic and European fixtures.
Leverkusen Attack Relies on Schick’s Output
Schick is currently playing his eighth season in Germany. The Czech forward has secured an undisputed role in the Leverkusen squad, capitalizing on injuries and poor form among his positional rivals. Without Schick’s seven league goals, Leverkusen would sit five points lower in the table, hovering just above the relegation zone rather than holding sixth place.
Despite a 4–2 defeat to Stuttgart on Saturday, Schick maintained his scoring run by finding the net once again. Across the domestic cup and the UEFA Europa League, the forward has added four more goals to his tally, bringing his total across all competitions to eleven.
Chasing Domestic Records and European Glory
If Schick maintains his current physical condition and scoring rate, he could surpass his previous career-best Bundesliga campaign from 2021/2022, when he netted 24 goals. Statistical projections suggest he could approach the 30-goal mark by the end of the term—a feat achieved in the German top-flight over the last decade by only Kane, Lewandowski, and Aubameyang.
In European competition, Leverkusen reached the final of the UEFA Europa League in Dublin in the spring of 2024, where they lost to Atalanta. Having secured both the Bundesliga title and the domestic cup that same year, the club missed out only on the European trophy. In the current league phase under manager Carles Martínez, Leverkusen has won all three of its opening matches to sit second behind Benfica, establishing the Europa League as a primary target for the squad.
Uncertainty Surrounds International Future
Beyond club competition, Schick’s status with the Czech Republic national team remains a point of discussion. Following the summer World Cup, the forward announced his retirement from international duty. However, after winning the Czech Footballer of the Year award, he indicated a willingness to reconsider his decision following discussions with national team coach Santi Denia, who remains keen to secure his return.
