Nearly 30 motorcycles from the collection of Czech collector Věroslav Bernat will go under the hammer on Nov. 14, 2026, at the autumn Retro Garáž auction in Lysá nad Labem, Garáž.cz reported. Bernat, who died this spring after more than three decades of amassing bikes in his family home, had planned to turn the house into an official museum — a dream he did not live to realize, and his heirs have now decided to sell the collection instead.
The Nov. 14 sale follows an October 2026 online auction, “Poklady ze stodoly” (Treasures from the Barn), also run by Retro Garáž, where 72 items from the collection sold, including a prototype ČZ engine that fetched 134,000 Czech koruna.
A Museum That Never Opened
Bernat spent more than 30 years gathering engines and motorcycles in the family home, Garáž.cz reported, with the ambition of one day opening an official museum there. His death this spring ended that plan, and the heirs opted to put the collection on the market.
Many of the machines have undergone careful restorations, and Retro Garáž selected the rarest and most interesting pieces for this autumn’s hall auction, according to the report.
Bikes Starting at One Koruna
The auction catalog spans a wide price range, starting at a symbolic 1 Kč for two mopeds. A Jawetta in the rare 551/03 Sport Speciál trim — recognizable by its twin exhaust — is described as visually looking like a new piece and will open bidding at 1 Kč. A Rakovník Stadion S23 in export specification, with two-tone paintwork, also starts at 1 Kč.
Higher up the scale, a ČZ 250 typ 470 (01) Trial — a rare model in the largest engine displacement produced, of which only 289 were made — starts at 60,000 Kč. The legendary Čezeta 175/501 scooter in the rare “watchmaker” version, fitted with original Prim clocks, also opens at 60,000 Kč.
The Jawa 350/633 Bizon, which many remember as the “Jawa Tatoušek” after designer Jan Tatoušek, starts at 90,000 Kč, as does a 1969 Jawa 350/362 Californian.
The Headliners: From Half a Million to a Possible 1.3 Million Koruna
Lot number 11 carries a Čezeta 175/502 with a Druzeta sidecar designed to match the scooter’s iconic “pig” predecessor, opening at 190,000 Kč. The legendary Jawa 500 OHC in the “snail” (15/00) version — the rarest and most sought-after variant among the three half-liter types — will start at 490,000 Kč.
The most expensive offering is a 1929 Jawa 500 OHV nicknamed “rumpál” (rumble), offered with a stylish sidecar. Restored 21 years ago in the style of prototype machines built at the German Wanderer company’s workshops, and revived again now, it enters the auction as catalog number 32 with a starting price of 640,000 Kč; Retro Garáž expects it to sell for between 950,000 Kč and 1.3 million Kč.
A 1943 Jawa 250 Duplex, of which only about 1,000 were planned, starts at 240,000 Kč and is estimated to reach 500,000 to 700,000 Kč.
