Maria Zavatta heads to Verona Fieracavalli for national equestrian titles

Twelve-year-old equestrian Maria Zavatta will compete at the Best Rider finals during Verona Fieracavalli, scheduled from Thursday, Nov. 5, through Sunday, Nov. 8. The event, held at one of Italy’s most significant equestrian trade fairs, serves as the stage for the national championship titles.

Zavatta, a rider representing the L’Ecurie stable led by Frederic Benoist in Valsamoggia, enters the national competition following a series of regional and national successes throughout 2026. Her path to Verona was confirmed following a ninth-place finish at the “Progetto Sport” finals held from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4 at Riviera Horses in San Giovanni in Marignano. Competing alongside her mount, Doudou Meraniere, Zavatta secured her qualification against a competitive field of national riders.

A season of growth for the young rider

Born in 2014, Zavatta has accumulated five years of competitive experience. Her 2026 season has been marked by consistent performances that established her standing in the pony circuit. Before the qualification in San Giovanni in Marignano, she earned a victory at the Open d’Italia in the Promesse Pony category in June. This was followed by a win in the “Best Rider regionale Pony Livello Base” in September.

The upcoming competition in Verona represents the final challenge of her current campaign.

Verona Fieracavalli is recognized as Italy’s primary equestrian gathering and a major international venue. The four-day event beginning Thursday will determine the absolute national champions across various categories.

Zavatta’s partnership with Doudou Meraniere remains the focal point for her performance in Veneto. The tournament concludes on Sunday, Nov. 8, when the final results will be recorded and the titles awarded.
