Luxembourg U17 Open: Suciati Aqueena Ayu Wins Two International Titles

Two young Indonesian athletes sent by the South Jakarta PBSI City Board claimed two titles at the Luxembourg U17 Open 2026 badminton tournament. Suciati Aqueena Ayu and Rajendra Daffa Al Basith secured the victories at the Coque venue in Luxembourg, competing in matches held from Friday, October 23, to Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Podium Finishes at the Luxembourg U17 Open

Suciati Aqueena Ayu took home two championships at the tournament, winning both the women’s singles and mixed doubles events. In the women’s singles final, the player born on September 27, 2011, defeated German representative Isabella Deng in straight sets with scores of 21-13, 21-16. Ayu then teamed up with Rajendra to capture the mixed doubles crown, defeating the seventh-seeded Irish pair Coley Chambers and Amira Pander 21-8, 21-18 in the final match.

For Rajendra, born on July 18, 2011, the mixed doubles victory marked his first international title. He competed against opponents with superior physical abilities throughout the bracket. The results mirrored the success of the 2025 edition, where South Jakarta representative Tanaya Ramadhani Putri Budiyanti won the Istanbul U-17 Open 2025 by defeating host representative Irmak Rana Yemisen 21-17, 15-21, 21-8.

Preparation and Training Under Yuan Kartika

The victories followed an intensive preparation period supervised by coach Yuan Kartika, who serves as the Head of the Training and Development Division of PBSI South Jakarta. After winning selection trials, the young athletes completed a specialized training program designed to prepare them for the 2026 Luxembourg U17 Open.

“Our training for the tournament was quite intense. We tried to make the most of the time available, and with the guidance and motivation of the coach and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, we were able to bring out our best abilities during the tournament and win the title,” Yuan said.

Yuan cautioned that the players must maintain focus moving forward. “I hope they don’t stop here. Their achievement in winning the 2026 Luxembourg U17 Open should motivate them to compete in national-level tournaments. They must train even harder to be consistent in every tournament they participate in,” she stated.

South Jakarta Officials Welcome Badminton Players at Airport

Upon returning to Indonesia, senior officials of the South Jakarta PBSI City Council greeted the players at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Cengkareng, Banten, on Tuesday, October 27. Kaisar Bobby Alexander of the South Jakarta PBSI City Board expressed optimism regarding the athletes’ development within the national framework.

“I hope these achievements don’t stop here. I hope they can become the next generation of Indonesian badminton players who will bring glory to the Indonesian national team on the international stage,” Kaisar Bobby Alexander said.

Reflecting on her international debut, Ayu expressed relief and determination for upcoming domestic fixtures. Earlier this year, the Boyolali-born player reached the quarterfinals of the West Java National Circuit A, where she lost a rubber match 15-12, 13-15, 7-15 to Zaira Octavia Armi from Exist Badminton Club. She also finished in the top eight at the Yonex Sunrise Pembangunan Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix 2025, falling to compatriot Kalia Rahmadani 17-21, 12-21.

“I’m definitely happy because this is my first international title. I’m very grateful because winning this tournament wasn’t easy, and the opponents I faced were very tough in every round,” Ayu said at the airport. “The 2026 Luxembourg U17 Open title should motivate me at the national level to play more consistently and win titles.”
