Marlos Moreno targets titles with Nacional and return to Colombia

Marlos Moreno has returned to Atlético Nacional for his second stint with the Colombian club, setting his sights firmly on domestic and international silverware after a global journey spanning 10 different foreign teams, according to AS Colombia.

Moreno Prioritizes Club Trophies Before National Team Recall

The 28-year-old winger initially joined the club’s youth ranks at age 14, capturing four titles during his early breakthrough in Medellín. Now back at his boyhood club, Moreno stressed that his immediate priority is securing trophies before entertaining thoughts of an international recall.

“My plans at this moment are very clear. To be champion with Nacional, to win the League and the Libertadores, and if these two things are achieved, as time passes the national team will come,” Moreno told AS Colombia, while adding a future desire to return to European football.

Moreno Reflects on Tactical Shifts and Challenges Abroad

Recounting his formative years, the forward detailed how former manager Juan Carlos Osorio transitioned him from a central striker to a wide winger. Reflecting on his subsequent career abroad, Moreno admitted that his initial exit involved too much rushing toward Europe.

He acknowledged candidly that the Spanish league presented heavy tactical challenges, while Turkish football posed distinct cultural hurdles.

Backing Rodríguez and Durán

Turning to the wider game, Moreno offered high praise for teammate James Rodríguez, describing the veteran playmaker as the greatest player in Colombian history. He defended Rodríguez against persistent external criticism, noting that the midfielder always maintains optimal positioning to receive the ball and provides vital leadership for the younger members of the squad.

Regarding the senior national team setup, Moreno identified Jhon Durán as the ideal central striker for Colombia. He pointed out that Durán shares stylistic traits with former star Radamel Falcao García, framing his own ambitions around featuring in upcoming World Cup qualifiers and the Copa América.
