Catanzaro Archers Win Five Gold Medals at Indoor Archery Season Opener

Archers from Catanzaro secured five gold medals at the opening indoor tournament of the 2026/2027 competitive season held at the palasport in Camigliatello silano, CalabriaInforma reported. The regional event, organized by Arcieri della Sila di Spezzano, drew competitors from across the region to mark the transition from the outdoor circuit to indoor competition.

The indoor calendar formally opened in the Sila mountains following the conclusion of the national outdoor season. Arcieri della Sila di Spezzano prepared the venue to accommodate regional athletes making the tactical adjustment from open-air ranges to indoor shooting distances.

Club Lido archers performed strongly across multiple divisions. Alessandro Poerio Piterà won gold in the barebow youth (giovanissimi) category, Sofia Sgotto claimed victory in the recurve cadet (Allieve) division, Anastasia Poerio Piterà took the compound junior gold, and Edoardo Poerio Piterà triumphed in the barebow master class.

Cross-Club Success and Youth Development

An additional gold medal went to Francesco Poerio Piterà, a Catanzaro native and Club Lido member who competes under a license for Cam Arcieri Monica di Gallarate, finishing first in the recurve senior division. The performance follows the national outdoor campaign at Vitulano, where Edoardo, Francesco, and ten-year-old Alessandro Poerio Piterà competed as the youngest participant in the national event.

Coach Edoardo Poerio Piterà and youth sector head Pasquale Demasi expressed satisfaction with the athletes’ immediate success despite the short turnaround between outdoor and indoor setups. “We have worked seriously and with dedication during these hot summer months,” Edoardo Poerio Piterà said, noting that bringing ten-year-old Alessandro to compete in an older age bracket at the national championships validates the developmental path set by Demasi.

Upcoming Qualification Events on the Calendar

Team Club Lido acknowledged the logistical support of Maurizio Sgotto and praised Francesco Poerio Piterà for balancing personal commitments with consistent training. The coaching staff confirmed that the club intends to target several qualification events throughout the newly opened indoor season to secure competitive rankings.
