Only female archers will step up to the shooting line this Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Furiani range adjacent to the Armand Cesari Stadium in Corsica, as the Compagnie d’Arc de Bastia hosts its annual women’s archery showcase, Corse Net Infos reported.
Bastia Archery Club Welcomes All Women to Furiani Range
The local club’s traditional event, known as the Journée des Amazones, opens the range exclusively to women for a full day of beginner instruction, open sessions, and exhibitions for experienced competitors. Jean-Mathieu Pierantoni, a member of the club, stated that the club holds the day to spotlight female archers and provide an introduction to the sport.
A normalized day within the company that honors female archers, beginners, confirmed, but also to do initiation,
Pierantoni said. The club aims to demonstrate that archery is not exclusively a male discipline, pointing to visibility gained during recent Olympic Games.
The push for gender parity in the club has yielded measurable growth. Female athletes now account for slightly more than half of the Compagnie d’Arc de Bastia’s 110 registered members.
Breast Cancer Awareness Takes Center Stage at the Range
Alongside athletic training, this year’s event shifts focus toward breast cancer prevention in coordination with the broader Pink October campaign. Organizers moved the annual event from its original April window to October to align with health awareness initiatives, incorporating informational materials and flyer distributions at the venue.
In addition to the sport, there will be breast cancer awareness, information, a distribution of flyers,
Pierantoni explained, detailing the integration of health education into the athletic schedule.
Club organizers also drew a parallel between modern breast cancer advocacy and the historical symbolism of the Amazons, the ancient warrior tribe of myth. Pierantoni noted that club leadership uses the event to emphasize that surgical breast removal does not preclude athletic participation. According to the club, adaptive equipment and tailored training programs allow archers with varying medical histories to continue competing safely and valorously.
