Pop superstar Taylor Swift gave actor Tom Cruise a football lesson during a Kansas City Chiefs game, according to comments Cruise made during a television appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

The crossover between Hollywood and the NFL captured public attention when Cruise and Swift sat side by side at the Kansas City Chiefs’ opening game of the season. Sitting in the stands, the actor discovered that the singer possessed an extensive grasp of the sport’s complex rules and strategies.
“She was schooling me on football. For real,” Cruise told host Jimmy Fallon during his Thursday night appearance on NBC. Cruise added that Swift “knows her stuff,” noting that the singer “knew nothing about football when she met Travis.”
A Growing Hollywood Alliance
Swift married Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in July, an event that Cruise attended. Their paths have crossed on multiple occasions over recent years. Cruise was spotted in the crowd at Swift’s Eras Tour stop in London in 2024. Reflecting on her career and cultural impact, Cruise praised the pop star’s multi-hyphenate talents during his late-night interview.
“First of all, she’s a genius. I’ve been following her since she was a kid,” Cruise said. “Everybody there, all their friends—they’re a beautiful couple and magical in their own right.”

Beyond breaking down the intricacies of gridiron tactics, the two megastars bonded over creative pursuits. Cruise revealed that their conversation in the stadium also touched on music and filmmaking. He commended her artistic range, calling her a funny person with a great sense of humor, as well as a brilliant writer, musician, and director.
Swift has directed several of her own music videos and expanded into narrative filmmaking with her 2021 project, “All Too Well: The Short Film,” which starred Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien. Plans for a feature directorial debut with Searchlight Pictures were announced in late 2022, though production timelines shifted as her record-breaking Eras Tour ran continuously from 2023 through December 2024.
