Madrid enters the first weekend of November with a diverse schedule of events ranging from American football celebrations to the traditional festivities honoring the Virgin of Almudena. The city is preparing for a high-profile NFL presence at the Santiago Bernabéu, while simultaneously observing religious and cultural milestones that define the capital’s local calendar.
NFL Activities at Plaza de España and Casa de las Alhajas
The city is leaning into its role as a host for American football with the upcoming matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Atlanta Falcons at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, scheduled for Sunday, November 8. In the days leading up to the game, the NFL is hosting free programming for the public.
The NFL Experience Madrid will occupy the Plaza de España on November 6 and 7, operating from 10:00 to 19:00. The site will feature interactive activities, a flag football field, musical performances, and appearances by league legends, team mascots, and cheerleaders. Simultaneously, the Casa de las Alhajas will host the NFL House Madrid from 12:00 to 20:00 on both days, offering fans a chance to view the Vince Lombardi Trophy and 60 Super Bowl championship rings. Attendees must register for these events via the NFL OnePass app.
Feast of the Virgin of Almudena
Madrid celebrates its patron saint, the Virgin of Almudena, with a series of religious and cultural events centered around November 9. The schedule includes a traditional triduo at the cathedral from November 6 to 8. The main mass is set for November 9 at 11:30 in the Plaza de la Almudena, followed by a procession to the Plaza Mayor and a return to the cathedral.
Additional events include a solidarity floral offering from November 7 to 10 and musical performances, including a concert by the Municipal Symphonic Band on November 6 at 20:00 and an appearance by the City Council’s Orfeón Sociedad de Conciertos on November 8. On the same day, a parade of traditional Madrid groups will travel from the cathedral to the Plaza de la Villa. The celebration concludes with the distribution of 1,000 portions of the traditional Corona de la Almudena pastry.
