Santander IMD Announces 2026-27 Sports Programs: 9,500 Spots Available across 50 Activities

The Instituto Municipal de Deportes of the Ayuntamiento de Santander has announced a sports program for the 2026-27 season featuring 9,488 places distributed across 50 distinct athletic activities, according to a presentation delivered by Sports Councilor Beatriz Pellón.

Santander Sports Program Structure and Schedule

The upcoming municipal sports schedule officially begins on Thursday, October 1, and runs through June, utilizing municipal sports facilities, civic centers, and alternative locations across the city. According to municipal officials, the curriculum aims to maximize physical activity demand, assist with family and work schedule balance, and accommodate participants starting from three years of age. Activities are divided into three primary categories: 20 sports schools, 29 quarterly courses, and two weekly campus programs.

The sports schools cover participants aged 3 to 16 and feature traditional disciplines such as chess, athletics, badminton, basketball, team handball, bowling (bolos), soccer, rhythmic gymnastics, field hockey, children’s swimming, children’s padel, artistic roller skating, canoeing, table tennis, children’s tennis, and volleyball. Program organizers have also added four new options for the upcoming term: capoeira, flag football, pequedeporte, and rugby.

Quarterly Courses and New Discipline Offerings

Adults and children can choose from 29 separate quarterly course disciplines. The established lineup includes aero-step, aero-step latino, yoga, floor pilates, general physical conditioning, senior gymnastics, adult swimming, adult tennis, adult padel, cross training, back health (espalda sana), GAP (gluteos, abdominales y piernas), aquagym, therapeutic gymnastics, adult and children’s golf, adult and children’s climbing, and sailing.

Seven new additions expand the adult and senior course roster: HIIT, LowFit, Nordic walking, padel for participants over 65, running, TotalFit, and wellness sessions. Furthermore, the schedule incorporates two weekly holiday campus sessions—a multi-sport camp and a mini multi-sport camp—scheduled to run from November 2 to November 6, 2026, at the La Albericia facilities during school vacation periods.
