Aruba’s Minister of Sports Gerlien Croes met with World Baseball Softball Confederation representatives and the Aruban Olympic Committee in Oranjestad to overhaul national federation governance, strengthen administrative structures, and expand training opportunities across the island.
Oranjestad Meetings Target Federation Governance
The high-level discussions brought government leadership together with international sports authorities to address the administrative foundations of baseball and softball in Aruba. Minister Gerlien Croes hosted the delegation alongside the Comite Olimpico Arubano, focusing talks on institutional transparency, administrative accountability, and the strengthening of national sports statutes. Officials from the Aruba Baseball Bond and the Aruba Softball Bond participated directly in the consultations.
The World Baseball Softball Confederation delegation included Victor Isola, the organization’s Pan American continental representative responsible for facilitating communication and cooperation with national bodies; Marco Ienna, chief operating officer, who oversees governance, integrity, anti-doping protocols, and social responsibility; and Randolph Oduber, an Aruban member of the WBSC board. Nicole Hoevertsz, secretary general of the Comite Olimpico Arubano, coordinated the visit and managed the approach between local sporting authorities and the global governing body.
Baseball5 Training Expands Local Access
Alongside administrative talks, the international delegation integrated practical programming into their visit by organizing a dedicated Baseball5 course on the island. This contributed to the expansion of knowledge and the development of the discipline on the island.
Minister Gerlien Croes noted that training initiatives must reach beyond athletes to support the instructors, leaders, and volunteers who sustain daily operations.
Structural Reform Outlined for National Federations
During the Oranjestad summits, participants emphasized that sustainable athletic achievement relies on strong organizational management rather than raw individual talent alone. The discussions produced a shared commitment among the Ministerio de Deporte, the Comite Olimpico Arubano, the Aruba Baseball Bond, and the Aruba Softball Bond to align local operations with international governance standards.
“Aruba has a rich history and an extraordinary talent in baseball and softball, but to continue growing and competing at a higher level, it is essential that we strengthen not only the sporting aspect, but also the structure and management of our federations,” Minister Gerlien Croes stated. She added that international cooperation provides essential access to accumulated expertise, administrative frameworks, and proven practices designed to professionalize local sports administration.
