According to an official ruling published by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) Disciplinary Council, Cátia Morgado breached article 142 of the FPF Disciplinary Regulation, which explicitly prohibits players from placing bets on the incidents or outcomes of official fixtures. The 37-year-old winger, who currently represents Leões de Porto Salvo, confessed to the infractions outlined in the disciplinary proceedings.
The investigation cataloged a total of 1,292 wagers placed across multiple competitions. The breakdown includes 130 bets on domestic men’s futsal fixtures—spanning the Liga masculina, Taça da Liga, and Taça de Portugal—with 37 of those matches involving her own club, Leões de Porto Salvo. Additionally, the disciplinary file recorded 124 wagers on men’s national football team fixtures, six on the men’s national futsal team, and five on the women’s national football team.
Performance and Success Rate of Wagers
Records examined during the disciplinary process detailed the outcome of the player’s betting activity. Out of the 1,292 total wagers placed, Morgado successfully predicted the outcome or incident in 223 instances, representing a 17,26% success rate. The remaining 1.069 bets, or 82,74%, resulted in failures.
The penalty falls under article 142, number two, of the governing body’s regulatory framework, which penalizes any active competitor who places or arranges bets on official match actions. Despite the high volume of prohibited activity, the resulting financial sanction was set at 1.275 euros following her confession and cooperation with the disciplinary inquiry.

Morgado is currently entering her second season with Leões de Porto Salvo, based in Oeiras. Over an extensive career in top-flight futsal, she has accumulated 100 caps representing the senior Portugal women’s national team.
Before joining her current club in Oeiras, the experienced winger represented a wide range of prominent clubs across Portugal and Spain, including Nun’Álvares, Sporting, Restauradores Avintenses, Novasemente, Poio Pescamar, AD Estação, and Guarda 2000.
