Acropolis and Paraguay Finishes Mark WRC Campaign
Sixth-place finishes at the Acropolis Rally in Greece and the Rally Paraguay stand as the strongest results of the WRC campaign for M-Sport Ford driver Malcolm Wilson, competing regionally as Makerlīns.
Testing The 2027 Ford Fiesta Rally2 WRC-Kit
During the final round of the European Rally Championship in Portugal, Makerlīns drove the new 2027 Ford Fiesta Rally2 WRC-Kit car as the zero car. That test drive does not guarantee a seat with the M-Sport squad for next season. Speaking to regional motorsport media, the driver admitted to having no clear picture of what the coming year holds while maintaining that staying at the elite level is the primary goal.
Academy Dependence and Ongoing Discussions
“We are discussing things, but I think that, considering where the championship is heading for next year, at the moment it still depends on the academy,” the driver said. “Motivation is there, so we’ll try to make something happen.”
Weighing Rally2 and WRC27 Machinery
When asked whether stepping back down to the Rally2 class or driving exclusively with WRC27 and WRC-Kit machinery would satisfy career ambitions, the response remained guarded. “Let’s see,” the driver said. “I think next year’s Rally2 car might not be so bad, so we will evaluate our options and see what is best.”
Navigating Manufacturer Landscape and Past Equipment
Prior to joining M-Sport, Makerlīns competed in Rally2 machinery from Hyundai between 2020 and 2023, followed by a 2024 campaign in a Toksport-prepared Škoda Fabia RS Rally2. Among current manufacturers, M-Sport stands as the sole brand to develop a WRC-Kit version of its Rally2 car. Meanwhile, Toyota continues development on its new WRC27 model, with additional part-season entries planned by Project Rally One and WRT Rally1 Spain.
