René Kisel officially reached an agreement with Sparta Prague to terminate his contract, concluding a relationship that had left the 31-year-old player outside head coach Jozef Chovanec’s plans for the spring campaign.
Immediate Contract Termination and Free Agent Status
The sudden departure unfolded rapidly, with the initiative coming directly from the player himself. According to statements given by René Kisel, the midfielder felt he was no longer wanted at Sparta Prague and decided to seek an immediate exit rather than remain in a squad where the coaching staff had no intention of utilizing his services.
Despite being listed on the official roster for the spring half of the league alongside compatriots Matúš Kozáčik, Juraj Kucka, Igor Žofčák, and Juraj Piroska, Kisel remained outside of Jozef Chovanec’s tactical vision. (Other squad members such as Marián Had and Tomáš Kóňa were simultaneously assigned to the B-team or individual training.) Now operating as a free agent, Kisel noted that regulations permit him to sign with any club as an amateur during the intervening months.
Academic Pursuits and Physical Preparation
Kisel’s schedule outside of professional football remains demanding. The Košice native splits his focus between intensive physical conditioning and his final-year legal studies at the Faculty of Law at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Maintaining top-tier physical readiness is a priority for the player as he weighs his next career steps.
“Even though I am no longer a Sparta player, rest is certainly not waiting for me. I will prepare individually and really push myself hard. I dare say that I am already in excellent condition right now. Schooling will also keep me busy, as I am studying law,” Kisel stated.
Prospective Destinations and Future Horizons
During the winter transfer window, rumors linked Kisel with potential moves to Teplice or Beşiktaş Istanbul. However, subsequent reports across Czech media pointed toward concrete interest from Australian club Sydney FC, managed by Czech coach Vítězslav Lavička.
Regarding the speculation from the A-League, Kisel confirmed awareness of Sydney FC’s interest, though noting timing constraints. “I know about the interest from Sydney FC, but if I went there, it would only be in the summer, since the season in Australia is ending now,” Kisel explained. With contacts established across various markets, the midfielder intends to evaluate his options to determine where he can best contribute during the second half of the competitive season.
