As the NFL moves into Week 2, teams are managing significant early-season injuries. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow faces back tightness, and several other franchises contend with key offensive and defensive absences.
Following a high-scoring opening weekend across the league, injury reports have forced coaching staffs to shuffle rosters and adjust game plans ahead of Sunday kickoffs. While some marquee players are expected to battle through physical ailments, others have already been ruled out, leaving teams searching for depth.
Joe Burrow Confronts Back Tightness Ahead of Bengals Clash With Texans
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was very limited at Wednesday’s practice due to back tightness, raising immediate questions about his availability for Sunday’s matchup against the Houston Texans. Despite the limited practice participation, Burrow left little ambiguity regarding his intentions for Sunday’s lineup.
“If I’m not getting surgery, I’m going to be out there.”
Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback
When asked earlier in the week about potentially missing the game against the Texans, Burrow dismissed the notion directly, stating That's ridiculous.
By Friday, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor indicated that his franchise quarterback would be good to go, though Burrow remains officially listed as questionable.
The Texans, meanwhile, will be without their top target in Nico Collins, who hurt his hamstring in practice this week. He’s had hamstring issues previously, too. Remember, Jayden Higgins (ACL) is out for the year, so Houston is hurting at pass catcher. They’ll also be down Ed Ingram, a starter on the offensive line, due to a groin injury. Jadeveon Clowney (knee) and Jake Hummel (groin) are also out for Houston, while B.J. Hill (Achilles) is listed as questionable alongside Burrow for Cincinnati.
Atlanta Falcons and Panthers Grapple With Deep Roster Gaps
The Atlanta Falcons continue to navigate a turbulent quarterback room. Michael Penix Jr. is still working his way back from his third ACL reconstruction and doesn’t quite feel ready for game action, while Tua Tagovailoa is listed as doubtful with the oblique injury he sustained at practice last week. Unfortunately, that leaves us staring down another Cooper Rush start. Panthers at Falcons features several other health concerns, with Atlanta ruling out cornerback Billy Bowman Jr. (Achilles) while listing guard Chris Lindstrom (concussion) and cornerback A.J. Terrell (shoulder) as questionable.
The Carolina Panthers are dealing with their own concerns, listing defensive tackle Bobby Brown III (back) as out and outside linebacker Patrick Jones II (back) as questionable. The Panthers being without Bobby Brown III leaves them thin along the interior defensive line behind standout Derrick Brown. In good news for the offense, wide receiver Jalen Coker (ankle) practiced fully on Friday and is not on the final injury report.
Browns, Buccaneers, Packers, and Jets Finalize Reports
The Cleveland Browns are without guard Teven Jenkins (back) for the second straight week. Cornerback Tyson Campbell (ankle) popped up on the injury report Thursday when he did not practice, but he was back out there Friday. Todd Monken thought Campbell moved around well,
though Campbell remains questionable. The Buccaneers have listed three players as questionable after they all practiced fully on Friday: safety Miles Killebrew (concussion), wide receiver Jalen McMillan (knee) and cornerback Jacob Parrish (back). Otherwise, Tampa Bay enters Week 2 relatively healthy.
The Green Bay Packers have several issues, mostly in the trenches. An already-struggling offensive line is being tested by knee ailments to tackle Zach Bako-Bewele and guard Aaron Banks. Both practiced in a limited fashion all week, just like they did in Week 1. Bako-Bewele started in Week 1 despite this status, while Banks was inactive. Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (knee/concussion) and defensive tackle Warren Brinson (calf) are out, while edge rusher Lukas Van Ness (concussion) and cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (hamstring) are questionable.

The New York Jets are also dealing with several absences, ruling out wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle), safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (groin), running back Kene Nwangwu (back), and edge rusher Joseph Ossai (foot). Edge rusher Will McDonald IV (ankle) is listed as questionable for New York.
| Team | Player | Position | Injury Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cincinnati Bengals | Joe Burrow | QB | Questionable (back) |
| Houston Texans | Nico Collins | WR | Out (hamstring) |
| Atlanta Falcons | Michael Penix Jr. | QB | Out (knee) |
| Atlanta Falcons | Tua Tagovailoa | QB | Doubtful (oblique) |

As coaching staffs finalize their game-day rosters ahead of Sunday, teams with lingering health concerns will monitor pre-game warmups closely to determine final active lineups.
