The injury occurred on the final play of the first half during a third-and-goal from the 1-yard line. Daniels took the snap under center, stumbled, and extended his left arm to brace himself before hitting the turf in visible pain. The pass attempt fell incomplete, stopping the clock with three seconds remaining before the break.
In the television booth, Fox analyst and former NFL quarterback Tom Brady reacted live to the sequence on the broadcast. “Oh, sh*t,” Brady said on the air before immediately correcting himself and offering an apology to viewers.
Medical staff attended to the rookie quarterback on the field as teammates and coaches gathered nearby. Medics then transported him to the locker room on a cart, and Commanders officials confirmed he would not return to the game. Following the contest, Daniels departed the stadium with his left arm in a sling, meeting briefly with family and friends.

Washington head coach Dan Quinn addressed reporters after the game, stating that initial X-rays showed no structural fractures while emphasizing that the team is awaiting results from upcoming tests. “As soon as I have updates that allow us to move forward, I’ll share them,” Quinn said.
Quinn defended his playcalling decision to run a play from the 1-yard line instead of settling for a field goal in the closing seconds of the first half. The Commanders were trailing and attempting to cut into a deficit against a potent Dallas offense.
“Looking back at it, on the 1-yard line, we needed to score touchdowns,” Quinn explained. “I don’t regret that decision. Obviously, when someone gets injured, you wonder what could have happened… But I don’t think this is one of those cases for me.”
The head coach also expressed confidence in backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, who stepped in for the remainder of the contest. “The truth is we’re very sorry about it. He was giving it everything he had,” Quinn said. “We will support Marcus Mariota unconditionally until Jayden returns. That’s what we talk about as a team.”
Quinn added that he expects Daniels to return to action this season. “I haven’t had any reason to think otherwise,” he stated.

McLaurin voiced confidence in the team’s depth moving forward. “We have a lot of belief in Marcus. We’re going to keep supporting Daniels; he’s going to be around the facility. Running back Rachaad White, a longtime friend of Daniels, also shared his perspective on the sideline incident. “I tried to keep my emotions in check, but tears welled up,” White said. “I feel so bad for him.”
The Dallas Cowboys ultimately secured the victory behind a strong performance from quarterback Dak Prescott, moving past Washington as the Commanders look ahead to further medical updates on their starting quarterback this week.
