A spectator suffered an acute medical emergency in the stands just over a minute into Hammarby’s match against Elfsborg, forcing officials to halt play, Aftonbladet reported. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on the terrace, and the person was later taken from the arena by ambulance alive and conscious.
Both clubs’ medical teams rushed to the stands, and the match was paused temporarily. Hammarby press chief Lukas Lundberg told Aftonbladet that CPR was carried out and that the person was alive. The stadium speaker said the individual was awake and able to speak before leaving the venue in an ambulance.
Second Incident as Players Prepared to Resume
When the players were getting ready to restart play, another person on the stands suffered a suspected medical emergency, Aftonbladet reported. The match eventually resumed at 19:44 local time.
TV4 expert John Guidetti, reacting to the scene, said: “You stand here now and it’s tough to watch. Thoughts go to the person, the family and everyone around. It’s terribly awful. Everyone did a superb job, so I hope for the best.”
Delayed Kickoff Due to Pyrotechnics
The match’s first kickoff had already been later than scheduled because of pyrotechnics, Aftonbladet reported, meaning the game began under unusual circumstances before the medical stoppage added further disruption.
Hammarby’s medical staff and Elfsborg’s medical staff both responded to the initial incident, according to the club’s press chief. No further updates on the condition of either spectator were provided in the report.
