24-Year-Old TreVeyon Henderson Shares Update on Medical Emergency

New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson said Friday that he recently suffered an “unexpected and unusual medical emergency” marked by a series of “unexplained neurological symptoms,” adding that medical test results came back “positive and reassuring,” rds.ca reported. The 24-year-old said the cause of the condition remains “unknown and inexplicable.”

Henderson, who was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, has not practiced since being placed on the injury list with an illness designation on Oct. 29. He did not play in New England’s victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, his first absence of the season.

911 Rookie Yards vs. 203 This Season

The running back’s medical absence comes after a standout rookie campaign in 2025 and a slower start to his second season. Through six games this year, Henderson has totaled 203 rushing yards on 52 carries for a 3.9-yard average with one touchdown, plus five receptions for 45 yards. By comparison, during his rookie season he played in every regular-season game, accumulating 911 rushing yards on 180 carries for a 5.1-yard average with nine touchdowns, and added 35 receptions for 221 yards and one receiving touchdown.

The statistical drop coincides with his medical issues, though neither Henderson nor the Patriots have specified a timeline for his return to the field.

Oct. 22 Loss to Bears Marks Last on-Field Appearance

Henderson last appeared following New England’s loss to the Chicago Bears on Oct. 22. According to the injury report timeline, he participated in two practice sessions after that game before being listed on the injury report with an illness on Oct. 29. He has not practiced since that designation.

Sunday’s win over the Dolphins marked the first game of the season that Henderson has missed entirely.

“Unknown and Inexplicable” Cause of Symptoms

In a social media statement posted Friday, Henderson provided details about his condition while emphasizing his commitment to recovery. He said he is working with specialists and physical therapists and that the symptoms have affected his strength, coordination and certain physical functions.

“I will continue to work closely with specialists and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, because these symptoms have affected my strength, my coordination and some of my physical functions,” Henderson said. “I commit to doing everything necessary to regain optimal health. My long-term health and well-being remain my absolute priorities.”

Despite the reassuring test results, Henderson stated that the cause of the problem remains “unknown and inexplicable.” Neither he nor the Patriots have provided additional medical details.

Gratitude to Family, Team and Supporters

Henderson also used his statement to thank those supporting him during the ordeal.

“My wife and I are deeply grateful to our family and loved ones, the New England Patriots organization, my agent, my medical team, my teammates and everyone who has offered us their prayers, encouragement and support,” he said.

From Ohio State Standout to Patriots’ Second-Round Pick

Henderson joined the Patriots after the team selected him in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft following his college career at Ohio State University. During his rookie season, he established himself immediately by playing in all regular-season games and becoming a primary option in New England’s backfield.

This season, through his first six appearances, he had contributed 203 yards on the ground and 45 receiving yards before his illness forced him to the sidelines.

No Return Date as Patriots Await Medical Updates

Neither Henderson nor the Patriots have offered a specific return date or confirmed when he might resume practicing. The team continues to list him with an illness designation, and his status remains unchanged since Oct. 29. The next confirmed checkpoint will be the Patriots’ next official injury report and any update on his practice participation.
