Italian club FC Bologna has dismissed head coach Domenico Tedesco after just four matches in charge of the Serie A side, naming Raffaele Palladino as his permanent successor on a contract running through June 30, 2029. According to reports from Italian media outlets and confirmation from the club, Tedesco leaves the post following a turbulent start to the campaign that left the Rossoblu sitting 16th in the league table.
A Rapid Departure Following a Difficult Summer
The swift change at the helm comes only weeks after the former FC Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig boss took over the managerial reins at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
According to club statements, the technical direction of the first team has been handed immediately to Palladino. The incoming coach most recently managed Atalanta from November 2025 until June 2026, where records show he averaged 1.59 points per match across 39 games.
Disciplinary Trouble and On-Field Struggles
Tedesco’s short tenure was further complicated by disciplinary issues. Earlier in the month, during a 2-2 draw against Sassuolo Calcio, Tedesco verbally attacked the referee in stoppage time and continued his protests in the dressing rooms. The league subsequently slapped the manager with a two-match touchline ban for “extremely disrespectful behavior” after he was shown a red card.
Compounding those issues, Bologna fell 0-1 to SSC Neapel over the weekend. That defeat dropped the club down to 16th place in the Italian top flight, dragging the team into an early-season relegation battle and eroding the board’s confidence in a turnaround.
Coaching Journey and Next Steps
For Tedesco, Bologna marked the seventh professional coaching stop of his career. His longest tenure on a club level remains his stint at Schalke from July 2017 to March 2019. The four-match stint in Emilia-Romagna stands as the shortest senior managerial appointment of his career.
