FC Barcelona and Telefónica Sign 5-Year Partnership for Espai Barça and Global TV Distribution

FC Barcelona and Telefónica have formally signed a five-year collaboration agreement that designates the telecommunications giant as an official partner of the Espai Barça project, according to announcements made by both organizations. The long-term pact establishes a multifaceted technology alliance spanning stadium infrastructure and media distribution as construction moves forward at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Broadcasting and Connectivity at Spotify Camp Nou

Under the terms of the agreement reported by El Periódico, Telefónica will serve as a television media network integrator. In this operational role, the company will manage the global distribution of television signals originating from the club while supplying connectivity services throughout the Spotify Camp Nou. The partnership addresses a vital distribution need for the Catalan club, which has operated digital streaming channels such as Barça One and Barça Play since the closure of the club’s dedicated television network, Barça TV, in June 2023.

Separation from Mobile Virtual Network Initiatives

Club and telecommunications representatives emphasized that the new five-year agreement operates entirely independently of existing agreements in the club’s telecommunications portfolio. The contract has no connection to a separate agreement running through December 31, 2030, with New Era Visionary Group and Ruslanu, which aims to launch a mobile virtual network operator under the brand Barça Mobile alongside Orange. Furthermore, Orange separately secured the Limak tender to install 5G infrastructure within the Spotify Camp Nou.

Preferred Technology Partner Status and VIP Hospitality

Beyond broadcasting infrastructure, Telefónica secures status as a preferred partner for future technological developments undertaken by the club. As part of the commercial arrangement, the company will receive a box at the stadium along with naming rights to one of the hospitality lounges currently under construction within the venue’s double VIP ring.

“This agreement with Telefónica brings into the Espai Barça a benchmark company in the field of technology and telecommunications that understands the scale and ambition of the project,” FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta stated in the official club communication. “This collaboration will allow us to continue advancing toward an increasingly connected and innovative Spotify Camp Nou.”

Telefónica España President Borja Ochoa emphasized the company’s local footprint and commitment to regional development. “Telefónica reaffirms its institutional role as an engine of the Spanish economy, its support for the world of culture and sport, and its involvement with Catalonia and the city of Barcelona,” Ochoa noted, pointing to an investment of 121 million euros in Catalonia last year alongside a workforce exceeding one thousand employees.
