The El Auria Bádminton Club launched its competitive season with a pair of intensive regional tournaments, sending squads to both the TOP TTR Las Playitas in Fuerteventura and the Máster Territorial As Neves in Pontevedra. Across the two events, the club secured multiple podium finishes, highlighted by dominant performances in individual and doubles categories.
Eduardo Curbelo Leads Auria Surge in Fuerteventura
At the TOP TTR Las Playitas in Fuerteventura, which drew approximately one hundred competitors to mark the opening of the regional badminton calendar, the El Auria Bádminton Club claimed six total medals consisting of two golds, three silvers, and one bronze. Eduardo Curbelo spearheaded the Lanzarote-based contingent by capturing two gold medals.
Curbelo lived up to his billing as the top seed in the under-17 boys’ singles draw. After advancing through group play with wins over Juan Diego Sánchez and Leo Bailey, Curbelo defeated teammate Jorge Betancort in the semifinals before overcoming Gerard Hernández 21–14, 21–10 in the championship match. Curbelo added his second gold in the under-17 boys’ doubles, partnering with Gerard Hernández of Tenzul El Rosario to rally from a set down in the final against Javier Peña and Oliver Sánchez, winning 21–23, 21–16, 21–13.
Podium Finishes Across Doubles and Singles Draws
Jorge Betancort earned a bronze medal in the under-17 boys’ singles after reaching the semifinals, where he fell to eventual champion Curbelo. Betancort also teamed up with Patricia Vargas to claim silver in the under-17 mixed doubles, advancing through group play before dropping the title match to Bruno Lionel Peralta and Elizabeth Caicedo in a 7–21, 23–25 battle.
In the under-13 categories, Jacob López secured a silver medal in boys’ singles after sweeping his group matches and advancing directly to the final, where he met Francisco José González. López added a second silver in the under-13 boys’ doubles alongside partner Isaac Rincón, securing the runner-up position after rebounding from an opening match defeat with strong victories in subsequent rounds.
Expedition to Pontevedra Yields Bronze Medals
While one segment of the club competed in the Canary Islands, another eight-player delegation traveled to mainland Spain for the N5-level Máster Territorial As Neves in Pontevedra, accompanied by technicians Miguel Barbado and Samuel Tarife. Álvaro Guadalupe captured a bronze medal in the under-13 boys’ singles draw, navigating a series of elimination rounds before falling in the semifinals to second seed Pablo Fernández.
Guadalupe teamed up with David Rodríguez to secure a second bronze medal for the club in the under-13 boys’ doubles. The pair swept their three group-stage encounters before dropping a closely contested semifinal match to Daniel Fernández and Gabriel Sánchez.
The club’s extensive participation across multiple regional circuits highlights an active start to the competitive season as athletes prepare for upcoming territorial and national ranking events.
