According to reporting from the newspaper Las Provincias, the player secured the switch after receiving legal permission regarding his ongoing court proceedings in Spain.
Judicial Permission Required for International Move
Rafa Mir faces a first-instance conviction carrying a prison sentence of more than eight years for sexual assault with violence. Because of the active judicial restrictions tied to his case, the Audiencia Provincial de Valencia granted the forward specific legal permission to relocate to Thessaloniki. Under the terms of the court order, the native of Cartagena must report and sign in person once a month at the Spanish consulate located in the Greek city.

Mir originally arrived at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in the summer of 2021, moving to Andalusia from English club Wolverhampton Wanderers for a reported fee of 16 million euros. Across three active seasons with Sevilla, the forward made 105 official appearances across all competitions, netting 24 goals and providing two assists.
Recent years saw the player deployed away from Seville on loan spells. During the 2024–25 campaign, he featured for Valencia CF before spending a subsequent stint with Elche CF.
