The Mâcon Judo club successfully hosted its 13th annual Eugène Prost Open tournament over the weekend of April 19-20, 2026, at the Complexe Sportif des Saugeraies in Mâcon, France. The event, renamed in honor of a departed club member, brought together young judokas from across the country for competition in the Benjamin and Minim categories.
According to event organizers, approximately 220 young athletes participated in the tournament, competing in the Benjamin (ages 11-12) and Minim (ages 13-14) age groups. The competition featured departmentally certified referees and officials overseeing the bouts to ensure proper conduct and safety throughout the event.
The tournament received support from local sponsors, including the MBA (Mâconnais Beaujolais Agglomération) and the city of Mâcon. These partnerships helped facilitate the presentation of special awards, including the MBA Cup, which recognizes the club traveling the farthest distance with the strongest representation. This year’s MBA Cup was awarded to the judo club from Sartrouville in the Yvelines region of Île-de-France, which brought 19 competitors to the event.
Additional honors were presented during the competition, including the Young Referee Cup and Young Sports Commissioner Cup for standout performers in the Minim and Cadet categories. These awards aim to encourage youth involvement in the administrative and officiating aspects of judo beyond athletic competition.
In the Benjamin girls’ division, specific results were recorded in the under-32 kilogram weight class. Layane Matoug of Avenir Club Judo des Minguerette secured first place, followed by Ysee Piganiol of JC du Val de Mieges in second position, and Mélusine Legros of J.C. Taking third place in the competition.
The event weekend included additional activities beyond the main tournament. On Saturday, April 19, a special program was held for younger participants including Poussins and Pré-poussins age groups, along with an all-categories tournament for Junior and Senior competitors. A road safety awareness workshop organized by Macif attracted approximately 100 participants during the weekend festivities.
The Meximieux judo club emerged victorious in the Saturday Poussins category competition, demonstrating strong performance in the younger age division. These supplementary events contributed to a comprehensive judo-focused weekend that engaged participants across multiple age groups and skill levels.
As a recurring annual tradition, the Eugène Prost Open continues to serve as an important developmental opportunity for young judokas in the region. The tournament’s namesake honors the memory of a Mâconnais judoka who passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding a meaningful commemorative aspect to the sporting event.
The Mâcon Judo club maintains its commitment to youth development through judo, with the Eugène Prost Open representing a key component of their annual programming. Future editions of the tournament are expected to continue fostering athletic growth, sportsmanship, and community engagement among young martial artists.
