BUAP Students Shine in International Archery Tournament – Hypocrite Reader News

Two students from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) achieved notable success at an international archery competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, showcasing the university’s growing presence in the sport on a global stage.

Andrea Ximena Pérez Martínez, a political science student, and Fernando Castellanos Lara, a law student, represented BUAP at the Las Vegas Shoot, an indoor archery tournament held in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The event, which took place in April 2026, attracted over 4,000 competitors from 70 countries and is part of the Indoor Archery World Series circuit.

Fernando Castellanos Lara secured the gold medal in the Recurve Bow Flight 3 category. He received special recognition for achieving the highest ranking among Mexican competitors in his division. Andrea Ximena Pérez Martínez earned the silver medal in the Recurve Bow Flight 11 category, marking a strong performance in her first international competition.

Both athletes highlighted the comprehensive support system provided by BUAP, which includes access to sports psychology, nutrition, sports medicine clinics, gym facilities, and physiotherapy services. Pérez Martínez noted that this multidisciplinary support was crucial to their performance, while Castellanos Lara expressed deep gratitude for the university’s role in enabling his athletic pursuits alongside his academic studies.

The Las Vegas Shoot, now in its 60th edition, is regarded as one of the premier indoor archery tournaments globally. It serves as a key event for international rankings and brings together elite archers to compete in a high-pressure environment that demands precision, focus, and mental discipline.

BUAP’s participation in such international events reflects its broader commitment to fostering athletic excellence alongside academic achievement. The university continues to support student-athletes across various disciplines, providing them with the resources needed to compete at high levels while pursuing their education.

As the indoor archery season progresses, athletes like Pérez Martínez and Castellanos Lara will look to build on their Las Vegas success in upcoming competitions. Their achievements underscore the potential for student-athletes to excel both academically and athletically with adequate institutional support.
