Puka Nacua Enters Rehab Amidst Assault and Antisemitism Lawsuit

The Los Angeles Rams are facing a volatile offseason as star wide receiver Puka Nacua has checked into a rehabilitation facility. The move comes as the All-Pro athlete navigates a legal battle involving allegations of assault and antisemitic behavior, creating a complex narrative for a player who has quickly develop into a cornerstone of the Rams’ offensive identity.

According to attorney Levi McCathern, who represents Nacua, the wide receiver is currently in rehab to “improve his overall behavior in every aspect of his life.” In a statement provided to The California Post, McCathern clarified that Nacua’s entry into the program was not a direct reaction to a lawsuit filed against him last month, noting that the player had already been in rehab for a “substantial period of time” before the allegations became public.

The Allegations: Novel Year’s Eve Incident

The legal turmoil stems from a lawsuit filed by a woman in Los Angeles. The plaintiff alleges that on New Year’s Eve, Nacua made an “unprovoked antisemitic statement” and subsequently bit her on the shoulder. The legal filing cites negligence, assault and battery, and gender violence.

Nacua’s legal team has pushed back aggressively against these claims. McCathern stated that Nacua denies the allegations “in the strongest possible terms” and asserts that the player possesses video evidence demonstrating that the plaintiff’s actions are inconsistent with the claims made in the lawsuit.

This is not the first time Nacua has faced scrutiny regarding antisemitic tropes. In December, the receiver issued an apology after appearing on an internet livestream where he performed a gesture that played upon such tropes.

Rams Organization and Sean McVay’s Response

The Los Angeles Rams organization has been tracking the situation since the alleged incident occurred on New Year’s Eve. During the NFL’s annual league meeting, head coach Sean McVay confirmed that the team is “continuing to gather all the information.”

Despite the gravity of the allegations, McVay signaled his personal support for the 24-year-traditional. “But man, you guys know, I trust this kid’s heart,” McVay told reporters, emphasizing a level of trust in Nacua’s character despite the ongoing investigation.

For a global audience following the NFL, the Rams are operating in a high-pressure market where off-field conduct is heavily scrutinized. The team’s ability to manage this crisis will be as critical as Nacua’s ability to regain his form on the field.

His production has only accelerated. As of 2025, Nacua has amassed 4,191 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns over 313 receptions. Last season, he led the NFL in receptions with 129 catches, totaling 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns. These numbers earned him a First-team All-Pro selection in 2025 and his second Pro Bowl nod.

The contrast is stark: on the grass, Nacua is one of the most productive receivers in NFL history over a three-season span; off the grass, he is fighting a lawsuit and seeking behavioral rehabilitation.
