The Salvadoran duo of Paola Corado and Roberto Hernández advanced to the final and guaranteed a medal for their country, as reported by La Prensa Gráfica on April 16, 2026. Hosted at the Polígono de Tiro con Arco within the Complejo Deportivo de Ciudad Merliot, the Grand Prix de las Américas Etapa 1 brought together 132 archers from 26 nations. The tournament serves as a critical qualifying opportunity for athletes aiming to represent their countries at the upcoming Santo Domingo 2026 Games.
El Salvador entered the competition with five already-qualified spots for Santo Domingo 2026 and used the event to complete its teams in both recurve and compound disciplines. In the compound category, the Salvadoran squad featured Hernández alongside Douglas Nolasco, Miguel Ángel Veliz, Óscar Mercado, and Adrián Pocasangre on the men’s side, while the women’s team included Corado, Camila Alvarenga, Sofía Paiz, and Gabriela Argueta — all beneficiaries of the national Esfuerzo y Gloria development program.
Linda Ochoa Anderson, coach of the Salvadoran compound team, emphasized the dual significance of the event: “This tournament has the value of being a world ranking event and a qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games. Our goal is to complete the teams that have not yet secured their spots and continue working with those that already have,” she stated during the event’s opening days.
