HOHENBOSTEL, Germany – The VSV Hohenbostel Judo club is celebrating a significant milestone after a recent belt examination saw a record-breaking 39 judoka successfully advance to recent levels. The surge in participation highlights the growing popularity of the sport within the community, and sets the stage for increased competition success.
The examination, held at the club’s facilities, saw 15 newcomers demonstrate their foundational techniques and earn their first white-yellow belt (8th Kyu). This initial achievement marks the beginning of their Judo journey, and a testament to the club’s introductory program. Another 13 athletes progressed to the yellow belt (7th Kyu), a crucial step as it grants them eligibility to compete in official tournaments. The VSV Hohenbostel now boasts 13 additional competitors ready to test their skills against others in the region.
Beyond the beginner levels, five athletes achieved the yellow-orange belt (6th Kyu), and four earned the orange belt (5th Kyu). Two female athletes reached the orange-green belt (4th Kyu), the highest level attainable within the club’s internal examination system. These athletes will now advance to regional central belt examinations, representing the VSV Hohenbostel at a higher level of competition.
The success of the examination wasn’t just about the athletes. The club also celebrated the recent qualification of Harm Rehberg as a certified examiner. Rehberg assisted the examination team, adding valuable expertise to the process. “The large number of examinations demonstrates the good growth of our group and the interest of many children in the sport of Judo,” said a representative of the trainer team. “And we also had an increase in examiners this time. Harm Rehberg recently obtained his examiner license and was able to support the belt assessment for the first time as an independent examiner.”

The club’s recent success extends beyond the belt examinations. According to a Facebook post, VSV Hohenbostel athletes recently secured bronze medals at a team event in Elze, with Katja Henco, Johanna Schöffmann, and Thea Teubner achieving third place in the girls’ category, and Kiro Wehrhahn earning a bronze in the boys’ category.
