The founder of Mendoza’s first archery school is behind bars. Argentina’s Supreme Court has confirmed a 13-year prison sentence for the sexual abuse of his son, bringing an end to a protracted legal battle that spanned nearly a decade.
Supreme Court Ruling Ends Years of Appeals
A Decade-Long Case and Final Surrender
The legal proceedings originated eight years ago when the victim’s mother filed an initial criminal complaint. At the time, the victim was 11 years old.
The case ground through multiple phases, including an initial trial that was later annulled. A subsequent second trial resulted in the 13-year prison sentence handed down in September 2024.
Despite the conviction, the defendant remained free on conditional status for nearly two years while his defense team pursued appellate challenges. That period ended abruptly when the Supreme Court rejected the federal appeal, triggering an immediate arrest order.
On Friday, August 21, the convicted man surrendered accompanied by his defense attorney at the 2nd Collegiate Penal Tribunal (Tribunal Penal Colegiado Nº2). Following intake processing at the Es.Tra.D.A. transit detention facility, authorities transferred him to a provincial correctional establishment to begin serving his sentence.
Grave Penalties and Forensic Evidence
The judicial findings established guilt on counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving carnal access, further aggravated by the familial relationship between the perpetrator and the victim. Throughout the multi-year investigation, forensic evidence and testimony gathered by prosecutors corroborated the allegations of repeated abuse sustained by the minor.
Fall From Grace in Regional Sports
With the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the extraordinary appeal, all avenues of direct judicial review in the case have been exhausted, leaving the 13-year prison term fully enforceable.
