Auria Bádminton Club Ascends to Top of Spain’s Segunda División Oro
Arrecife, Lanzarote – The Auria Bádminton Club has surged to the top of the Segunda División Oro, Spain’s second-tier badminton league, following a successful weekend of competition held at the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe in Arrecife. The club secured victories against both Viladecans and Valladolid, maintaining a perfect record through the first two rounds of play.
The Auria Bádminton Club’s dominance began with a decisive 7-0 sweep of Viladecans on Saturday. The team then faced a tougher challenge against Valladolid, ultimately prevailing 4-3 in a match that required a late rally. These results position the Lanzarote-based club as the early frontrunner in the Segunda División Oro.
Dominating Performance Against Viladecans
The match against Viladecans proved to be a one-sided affair, with Auria Bádminton Club demonstrating their strength across all disciplines. Martín Barbado and Laura María Solis kicked off the day with a win in the mixed doubles, defeating Óscar Muñoz and Aina Pablo with scores of 11-6, 11-8 and 11-5. The women’s doubles pairing of Laura María Solis and Sara Vianelli continued the momentum, overcoming Laia Minguez and Aina Pablo (10-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-6). Rounding out the doubles victories, Martín Barbado and Miguel Barbado triumphed over Héctor Flores and Marc Villanueva (11-4, 11-9, 10-11, 9-11, 11-4) in a closely contested match.
The singles matches mirrored the success of the doubles teams. Zeneida Ortiz secured a win against Laia Minguez (6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-10), although Sara Vianelli easily defeated Nora Lacalle (11-2, 11-5, 11-3). In the men’s singles, Samuel Tarife overcame Marc Villanueva (11-6, 4-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4), and Miguel Barbado defeated Héctor Flores (11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 11-8), completing the clean sweep.
A Hard-Fought Victory Over Valladolid
The encounter with Valladolid proved to be a significantly greater test for the Auria Bádminton Club. Valladolid drew first blood in the mixed doubles, with Javier Barrios and Ana Sainz defeating Martín Barbado and Laura María Solis (4-11, 9-11, 5-11). However, the Auria team responded strongly in the subsequent matches.
Laura María Solis and Sara Vianelli leveled the score in the women’s doubles, defeating África Cimas and Sheila Diez (11-6, 11-8, 11-6). The men’s doubles team of Miguel Barbado and Samuel Tarife then secured another point for Auria, winning against Iker Bartolomé and Isaac Martín (10-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9).
Valladolid regained the lead with victories in the first two individual singles matches. Zeneida Ortiz fell to África Cimas (7-11, 11-10, 8-11, 5-11), and Adrián Carabali lost to Javier Barrios (9-11, 6-11, 9-11). Facing a deficit, the Auria Bádminton Club demonstrated resilience, winning the final two singles matches to clinch the overall victory.
Sara Vianelli secured a crucial win against Ana Sainz (11-10, 11-10, 7-11, 11-10), and Miguel Barbado sealed the triumph with a decisive victory over Iker Bartolomé (11-8, 11-4, 11-4). This comeback victory underscored the team’s determination and fighting spirit.

With these two victories, the Auria Bádminton Club now leads the Segunda División Oro standings, having won all four of their matches to date. The team will look to continue their winning streak in the third round, scheduled for April 18th and 19th, where they will face Alfajarín, Tenzul El Rosario “B”, and Goose Wings.
