Arnage Table Tennis Tournament: Record Participation & Success!

Arnage, France – A recent national table tennis tournament held in Arnage from February 27th to March 1st, 2026, at the Fernand-Lusson gymnasium, proved to be a resounding success, attracting a record number of players and generating a significant financial boost for the local community. Organizers reported over 1,000 matches played across the three-day event, showcasing the growing popularity of the sport in the region.

The tournament, organized by the US Arnage Tennis de Table, saw an impressive 312 players participate, a 50-player increase from the previous year. Players traveled from across France, including regions like Paris, Brittany, Cherbourg, and even Montpellier, alongside approximately 30 local club members. The event was officially sanctioned, featuring qualified judges and referees ensuring fair play.

“We had 50 players registered more than last year, 312 exactly,” said Jean-Pierre Gauthier, President of US Arnage Tennis de Table, reflecting on the positive outcome. “Including players from the Paris region, Brittany, Cherbourg, and even Montpellier, and around 30 players from our club. It’s a great edition, organized officially with judges, and referees.”

The sheer volume of matches played is a testament to the tournament’s popularity. A total of 652 matches were contested on Saturday alone, followed by over 400 on Sunday, with play continuing until 9 PM. A non-competitive evening session on Friday also drew a strong turnout, with 32 entrants in the singles competition, 16 in doubles, and a total of 64 participants. Organizers noted the participation wasn’t limited to club members, indicating broader community engagement.

The competition wasn’t short on talent. According to tournament officials, a player ranked 138th nationally took first place, while Lucas Triffault, a local player, also secured a victory in his bracket. A female player competed in the F women’s bracket, highlighting the diversity of participants.

Beyond the sporting achievements, the tournament provided a substantial economic benefit to Arnage. Gauthier emphasized the financial impact, stating, “It’s a big financial boost for us, and we have specific sponsors as well.” The event’s success underscores the value of community sports initiatives in driving local economic activity.

The US Arnage Tennis de Table is led by a dedicated team of volunteers and officials. Alongside President Gauthier, key figures include Gilles Marmion (Treasurer), Laurent Humbertclaude (Secretary), and Elodie Charbonneau (Secretary-Adjoint). Charbonneau played a crucial role in tracking and managing the matches throughout the tournament.

The club, founded in 1955, has a rich history and a growing membership of 130 licensed players, ranging from young children to veterans. It boasts a dedicated facility with 10 tables and a commitment to fostering a welcoming and competitive environment for table tennis enthusiasts of all levels. The club also benefits from the expertise of qualified coaches, including Lilian Demestre and Elodie Charbonneau, who focus on youth development.

Looking ahead, the US Arnage Tennis de Table will continue to build on the success of this tournament, aiming to attract even more players and further contribute to the local community. The next scheduled event for the club is currently unconfirmed, but information will be available on their website and social media channels.
