The Arcieri Monte Comero sports association has promoted field archery through the wooded terrain of Bagno di Romagna. Founded in 1998, the club maintains a 24-target course near Lago dei Pontini where participants encounter variable distances, synthetic animal targets, and natural obstacles.
Years in the Woods of Bagno di Romagna
Field archery requires participants to read uneven terrain, evaluate shifting light through the tree canopy, and adjust to varying shooting angles rather than relying solely on marksmanship. The course at Lago dei Pontini features stations designed to test precision and adaptability. Association representatives noted that the sport suits individuals of diverse ages and experience levels because equipment is calibrated to each archer’s physical characteristics, allowing beginners to progress gradually alongside experienced competitors.
Course Layout and Competitive History
The 24-target layout utilizes three-dimensional foam targets shaped like animals to simulate outdoor conditions. Portions of the land hosting the range are provided by the Municipality of San Piero in Bagno and the Sanafonte company. Beyond daily training sessions for its 30 current members, the club holds a notable competitive history. In 2005, the association organized an International Field Archery Association (IFAA) European championship, followed by an Italian national championship in 2008. The organization remains affiliated with the Italian Field Archery Federation (Fiarc), which represents approximately 5,000 archers nationwide.
Community Outreach and Local Collaboration
To introduce new participants to the discipline, the association organizes introductory courses and partners with the municipal administration and local groups. These collaborative efforts include demonstrations and promotional displays during regional festivals, fairs, and community events throughout San Piero in Bagno.
