The decision has finally been made: Ajax has immediately strengthened itself with Oleksandr Zinchenko. The former Premier League gun from Ukraine comes over from Arsenal and signs in Amsterdam until the end of the season.
Initially, the focus was on a rental structure, but partly due to Zinchenko’s expiring contract at the Emirates Stadium, Ajax and Arsenal – after the green light from Nottingham Forest – reached an agreement on a permanent transfer. Now the deal, which reportedly costs the Amsterdammers one and a half million euros, has been completed. Ajax ties Zinchenko until the end of the season. He will play with shirt number 47.

With the arrival of Zinchenko, Ajax hopes to solve the problems in the left back position. Owen Wijndal played a lot of minutes this season, but has been found wanting and can look forward to a new club due to his million-dollar salary. Players such as Lucas Rosa, Gerald Alders and Lucas Jetten also covered the left flank this season. In addition, Ajax has added an extra option to the selection with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Zinchenko’s teammate at Arsenal.
Zinchenko is an international player for Ukraine and is known for his footballing qualities. It is not without reason that Pep Guardiola transformed him into an ‘inverted’ left back at Manchester City. In that role, Zinchenko also had an excellent period at Arsenal. After falling out of favor in London, Zinchenko spent this season on loan at Nottingham Forest. That was not a success, partly due to injuries.
