FC Groningen will no longer sell Stije Resink on Tuesday. This is what Frank van Mosselveld, the general manager, says in a transfer deadline show FC Rehab and it Algemeen Dagblad.

22-year-old Resink isn’t going anywhere anymore. “He will definitely stay,” Van Mosselveld says firmly. The director indicates that no official offer has been received for the Groningen captain.

Benfica only called through an intermediary about Resink’s status. Groningen then indicated that it did not want to sell the midfielder and subsequently there was silence from Portugal.

Van Mosselveld is asked what he will do on Deadline Day when Ajax, in total panic, makes a million-dollar bid for Resink. “That is of course hypothetical, but you are right to ask the question. All our possible options have dried up or left, so we can no longer do anything.”

“Every player can be bought for bizarre amounts, but we are in the middle of a season and want to keep our place. You also have to ask yourself whether what you get for Resink now, whether you can’t get that in the summer as well. All those elements play a role. The most important thing is that you don’t want to lose your captain on the last day,” the policy man concludes.

Finally, Van Mosselveld indicates that Resink does not have a summer clause in his contract. He will be held in the Euroborg until mid-2028.

Resink has only played 48 official matches for Groningen, which took him over from Almere City two years ago for 700,000 euros.
