Viktorija Golubic (WTA 89) qualified for the round of 16 at the WTA 250 tournament in Ostrava (CZE) without any problems. She beat her opponent in the opening round, the Austrian Sinja Kraus (WTA 104), 6:4, 6:0.
In the second round, the 33-year-old from Zurich didn’t give Kraus a single break chance and in return took the service from her in every game. For Golubic it was the first victory in 2026. In the round of 16 she will face the British Katie Boulter (WTA 120).
Masarova with a surprising victory
Rebeka Masarova (WTA 114) is also in the second round of a WTA 250 tournament. In Cluj, the 26-year-old beat local hero Elena-Gabriela Ruse (ROU), who was 42 places higher, 6:1, 4:6, 6:2. In the round of 16, Masarova will face the Chinese Xinyu Wang (WTA 33).
For the third Swiss woman who was in action on Tuesday, the round of 16 in Abu Dhabi is the final stop. At the WTA 500 tournament, in which Belinda Bencic is seeded number 1, Simona Waltert (WTA 94) failed against the Danish Clara Tauson (WTA 16). She lost 3:6, 1:6.
