Sunderland and Burnley jointly achieved a return to the Premier League this season, but their futures now look drastically different.
Sunderland without major problems registered a convincing victory against Burnley and further deepened the crisis of the team at the bottom of the table. Burnley’s streak without a win in the Premier League was extended to 15 games, and at the Stadium of Light, the host made it clear from the first minute in which direction the match would go.
Already in the ninth minute Sunderland reached the lead, when the kick Habiba Diarrhea changed direction after Axel Tuanzebe’s block and ended up in the visitors’ net.
Sunderland, who returned to the elite ranks after nine years and are still unbeaten at home this season, increased their lead in the 32nd minute. After a nice action on the right side, Diarra beat Martin Dubravka with a precise ground kick, who could have reacted better on that occasion.
He put a full stop Chemsdine Talbiwho hit the crossbar with a powerful and precise shot from around 20 meters and scored one of the most beautiful goals of the evening.

On the other hand, Burnley’s already poor survival prospects have received an additional blow and they remain in 19th place with only 15 points. In the race for survival, they are 11 points behind Forest and Leeds.
