Indian wild card winners Srivalli Bhamidipati, Maya Rajeswaran Revathi and Vaishnavi Adkar, along with Indian doubles player Rutuja Bhosale were present at the main draw ceremony. MSLTA Secretary Sundar Iyer, Joint Secretary Nikhil Sampat and India’s Billie Jean King Cup coach Radhika Tulpule were also present on the occasion.
When the main draw matches begin on February 2, Indian players will be in the spotlight, with many domestic talents facing strong international opponents. India’s No. 1 women’s singles star Sahaja Yamalapalli will face Japan’s Eri Shimizu.
Srivalli Bhamidipathy, who got a wild card entry, will face a qualifier in the first round, while Maya Rajeswaran Revathi, who also got a wild card, will face Thailand’s Lanlana Tararuddy.
Maharashtra’s No. 1 singles player Vaishnavi Adkar will face Austria’s Lili Tager. Another Indian wild card, Vaidehi Chaudhary, will begin her campaign against third seed Leolia Jeanjean of France.
Talking about her approach ahead of the tournament, last edition’s semi-finalist Maya Rajeswaran Revathi said, “Last year I came with no expectations and I was okay with it, and I’m going to do the same this year too. I’m still young and developing physically and mentally. For me, it’s about getting better every day, staying fit, injury-free and just doing my best.”
