Ayudiah Rivana Tridiandinata, a 19-year-old pencak silat athlete from Semarang City, died early Wednesday while under hospital care at the Central Java Provincial Games (Porprov Jawa Tengah 2026), just one day after surgery for a finger injury sustained in competition, Kompas.com reported.
The death, confirmed Wednesday morning, October 28, 2026, marks the second athlete fatality within four days at the provincial multi-sport event, following the death of diver Syabilla Rizkia Putri Raharja on October 25.
Injury in the quarterfinal against Batang
Ayudiah was injured Monday, October 26, during the women’s Class A quarterfinal against an athlete from Batang Regency. According to Semarang City pencak silat coaching coordinator Nurfaqih, Ayudiah’s middle finger was struck by a kick and bled. An X-ray initially showed no fracture, but Nurfaqih said the finger’s middle segments were injured and the bone had shifted, as reported by TribunJateng and cited by Kompas.com.
She was taken to RS Primaya Semarang, located near the competition venue, for treatment.
Surgery Tuesday evening, death before dawn
Ayudiah underwent surgery at RS Primaya Semarang on Tuesday, October 27, at about 6:00 p.m. local time (WIB). Nurfaqih said the operation went smoothly, and Ayudiah’s parents reported that the medical procedure was completed without problems.

RS Primaya Semarang director Aditya Nugraha said staff found Ayudiah’s condition around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when they went to wake her. She was unconscious, not breathing and had no heartbeat, Aditya said, as reported by Antara. He said all surgical steps were carried out according to procedure and that the patient had no drug allergies and no history of congenital illness. The hospital director stressed that the operation was not a major surgery; after the procedure, Ayudiah regained consciousness and was moved to a treatment room. The hospital has not been able to confirm the cause of death.
Nurfaqih said he received the news from Ayudiah’s father on Wednesday morning and that, to his knowledge, she had no history of congenital disease. The cause of death of the 19-year-old athlete remained unknown and under investigation.
Police plan exhumation after family rejects autopsy
Semarang City Police (Polrestabes Semarang) plan to exhume Ayudiah’s body to determine the exact cause of death, because her family had refused an autopsy from the outset, said Criminal Investigation Unit head AKBP Agus Supriyadi, according to Antara and Kumparan. The exhumation will be coordinated with the family first, and police are still waiting for the family’s approval, Agus said.
Second young athlete death in four days draws national response
Ayudiah’s death came four days after Syabilla Rizkia Putri Raharja, a 22-year-old diver from Jepara Regency, died on October 25 while competing at Awann Costa Beach in Semarang. Police are examining a swimming expert and have questioned 10 witnesses in that case, including organizers, medical personnel and event motorists, while probing possible negligence, Republika reported.
Responding to both deaths, Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) president Raja Sapta Oktohari expressed condolences and called the two cases a reminder for all sports stakeholders to evaluate competition organization systems. He said athlete safety, protection and welfare must be central to building a healthy sports ecosystem, and urged concrete action rather than formal commitments, as reported by CNN Indonesia. He added that no medal is comparable to the loss of an athlete’s life.
