Lukashenko Scores Goal: Ice Hockey Return

Lukashenko’s team, aptly named the Team of the President of the Republic of Belarus, is part of the amateur hockey competition the Republic Hockey League. Seven teams meet in it, including the one from the Hroden region. Teams from Minsk, Brest, Homel, Mohylev and Vitebsk regions are also competing.

Lukashenka’s team is currently in first place, and by winning against the team from the Hroden region, they took the lead at the top of the table. He leads by four points.

The match was played on the last day of January and Lukashenko’s team won 10:5. The game had a decent pace, after all, former Belarusian hockey star Andrej Kosticyn was also on the ice, but as soon as the 71-year-old Lukashenko joined the game, the momentum visibly decreased.

The ice dictator arrived wearing a black helmet so that players could distinguish him. Everyone else had a red helmet. While against all the other players, the goalkeepers tried to prevent the goal from falling, when Lukashenko shot, the goalkeeper seemed to cringe.

During Lukashenko’s intervention, not only all the players, who left a huge amount of space around the dictator, missed the easy shot from the hoop, but also the goalkeeper himself, who barely moved during it.

Lukashenko is a passionate hockey player who has appeared on the ice with some regularity for many years.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has also been seen with a hockey stick and skates in the past, while he too did not face any tight defense. In addition to the enormous number of goals, he also attracted attention when he fell during the thank-you party accompanied by former Russian hockey stars after overlooking the carpet on the ice.

The hockey players of Russia and Belarus will not compete in the upcoming Winter Olympics, because of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, in which Minsk supports the aggressor. The ice hockey federation excluded both countries from its competitions after the start of the invasion four years ago and does not yet count on their return even for next season.
