Ruud van Nistelrooy is still in the race to become Manchester United coach. Sources confirm this to ESPN. In addition to Van Nistelrooij, the club is also targeting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and current interim coach Darren Fletcher. United wants to appoint a trainer early next week until the end of the season.
According to sources around Van Nistelrooij, the former striker believes that he is not the first option. Van Nistelrooij played four matches for the group in Manchester last season, after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag. It gave him three wins and a draw.
Other options
Carrick has already had a conversation with United CEO Omar Berrada. Such a conversation is also planned for Solskjaer. However, according to sources, putting together Solskjaer’s coaching staff could be a problem with an appointment until the end of the season.
Fletcher took over the duties of the dismissed Ruben Amorim during last Wednesday’s match against Burnley. The Scot opted for an attacking tactic and has thus impressed the management of Manchester United. In any case, Fletcher will also be in front of the group this weekend when United takes on Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA cup.
