Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin became a new magnet in the world of badminton through their relatively cool actions on the court when they appeared at Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2026. However, Raymond/Joaquin emphasized that this was not to provoke their opponents.
Raymond/Joaquin advanced to the final of the Indonesia Masters 2026 after defeating Sabar Karyaman/M. Reza Pahlevi and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri. In two matches against more senior players, especially Fajar/Fikri, Raymond/Joaquin appeared stubborn and were involved in a ‘gimmick war’.
Responding to this, Raymond/Joaquin emphasized that they were acting cool not to provoke their opponents. They need to appear like that in order to bring out all their abilities.

Raymond/Joaquin have a strong foundation for that. They have tried to play more calmly and reduce the action on the field.
“Actually, if you want to psychy That, you could say it’s stupid, right? If it’s tengil, it’s not actually to provoke the opponent’s emotions, but to make us confident. We have played tengil before, and if we don’t, we already know what the result is [berbeda].”
“So we played Tengil so that we could show off our confidence. It doesn’t mean that we want to provoke our opponent’s emotions, no. But it’s so that we become more confident, so that we can bring out everything we’ve been practicing every day,” said Joaquin.
Raymond/Joaquin are one of two Indonesian representatives who have qualified for the final of the Indonesia Masters 2026. They will face Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin in the top match.
Meanwhile, another representative is Alwi Farhan. Alwi Farhan will meet Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul.
