Telma Ruso: Gold & Silver at Nigrán Badminton Masters

The National Badminton Master held this weekend in Nigrán has had the flavor of local success. Vigo player Telma Ruso, from Club Escola Rosalía, has been the great protagonist by winning the gold medal in U-13 women’s doubles and the runner-up position in singles in the same category. A double that crowns a brilliant performance in a top-level event organized by his own club in Bembrive.

In the doubles category, Telma Ruso, partnering with Lucia Rodríguez from Huesca, won in a very tight final 21-19 against the duo formed by Eva Lemos and Ruth Mercader. In individual terms, the Rosalian produced a surprise by defeating the number 2 seed in the semifinals, Ruth Mercader from Murcia, and then fell in the final against number 1, Eva Lemos, in two close games (21-18 and 23-21).

The representation of the organizing club, the Club Escola Rosalía, completed a notable participation with the players Guille Valdes, Antón Firvida, Sara Alfaya and Álvaro Gómez, who competed at the highest level against the best national rackets. The event, which had the collaboration of the City Council of Nigrán and a wide network of volunteers from the club itself, was highlighted for its excellent organization.

The awards ceremony was attended by the president of the Galician Badminton Federation, Rodrigo Sanjurjo, the Sports Councilor of Nigrán, Roberto Garrido, and the president of Club Escola Rosalía, Jesús Gómez. From the entity the maximum gratitude was conveyed to the Council of Nigrán, considered the “berce of Galician and national badminton”, and to the rest of the collaborating institutions and entities.

The tournament also confirmed the high level of Galician badminton in other categories, with victories such as that of Xulia Otero (As Neves), runner-up in the U-17 women’s singles, or the doubles titles of the pairs formed by Daniel Álvarez and Xoán Balboa (U-17 men’s doubles) and Pablo Fernández and Suevia García (U-13 mixed doubles).
