Raymond/Joaquin: Indonesia Masters 2026 Debut

JAKARTA – From January 20 to 26, 2026, badminton players Raymond Indra/Nicolas Joaquin won the runner-up in the men’s doubles of the 2026 Indonesia Masters held at Istora Senayan in Jakarta. This achievement complements the brilliant record of young Indonesian athletes fully supported by PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI.

BNI Company Secretary Okki Rushartomo believes that Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin’s achievements at the 2026 Indonesia Masters are inseparable from the good cultivation ecosystem from early training, tiered competition to supporting a variety of ways to create space for young athletes to grow.

“This achievement provides young athletes with important capital to continue to improve the quality of their play and preparation to compete at the world level,” Okki said in a written statement.

BNI’s support also comes at a historic moment for the Redmond/Hawquin pair, who have just made their debut at the 2026 Indonesia Masters and immediately made an impressive run at a world-class tournament in their home country.

Nicholas Joaquin (Joaquin) was born in Jakarta on September 14, 2005. He is 20 years old. He started playing badminton at the age of six, idolizing Fajar Alfian as an inspiration. Joaquín officially joined PBSI Pelatnas in 2025, having previously worked with a number of players including Muhammad Al Farizi and Verrel Yustin Mulia.

Meanwhile, Raymond Indra was born in Bandung 21 years ago. He entered PBSI Pelatnas in 2025 and emerged as a talented player with stable game control and tight defense. His young career began with local badminton clubs in primary school before eventually moving to the national level with the opportunity to compete in various international tournaments.

Raymond/Joaquin have shown significant improvement since being paired together. In addition to retaining the 2025 BWF Indonesia Masters Super 100 title, last year the couple also successfully became the 2025 Korea Masters runners-up and the 2025 Australian Open champions. They are known for their solid defense, often making it difficult for opponents to develop attacking patterns.

This combination of performances led to Raymond/Havi King starting to be called the heir apparent to Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon. As well as being handled by coach Chafiz Yusuf, the pair are known for their aggressive and fast game characteristics that are hallmarks of Indonesia’s world-class men’s doubles.

Okki added that BNI has been a partner of PBSI for more than five years and has been committed to supporting the training and regeneration of athletes across all age groups, including strengthening national programs, which are the basis for the birth of world-achieving athletes.

“We hope this achievement will inspire other young athletes to continue developing and represent Indonesia on the international stage,” Okki added.

Through continued support, BNI continues to strengthen its commitment to oversee the birth of a new generation who are ready to establish Indonesia as one of the major forces in world badminton.
