Ravens: John Harbaugh Out After 18 Seasons

(Owings Mills) John Harbaugh was fired by the Baltimore Ravens after 18 seasons as the team’s head coach.

Owner Steve Bisciotti made the announcement Tuesday.

Baltimore disappointed greatly with an 8-9 record, as the club began the season among the favorites to reach the Super Bowl.

The Ravens’ season ended Sunday when Tyler Loop missed a last-second field goal attempt.

This allowed the Pittsburgh Steelers to win 26-24, in a decisive game for the AFC North title.

“The decision was extremely difficult to make, given the 18 wonderful years we spent together and the deep respect I have for John – as a coach, but above all as a man of great integrity,” Bisciotti said in a press release.

“Throughout what I firmly believe to be a Hall of Fame-worthy journey, John won a Super Bowl title and was a model of humility and leadership. »

Harbaugh had a 193-124 record as head coach of the Ravens, including the playoffs.

He led the Ravens to victory in the February 2013 Super Bowl.

“I am certainly disappointed, but above all I feel gratitude and appreciation,” Harbaugh said in a statement. I am grateful to an organization that gave a chance to a coach who had made his mark on special teams. I really enjoyed all his years. I have experienced moments that will last forever. »

This season is only the sixth time Baltimore has been left out of the playoff picture under his watch.

The Ravens reached the AFC Finals three times in his first five years in office.

After three straight playoff-less seasons, star quarterback Lamar Jackson arrived in 2018, guiding the club to a section title.

However, Harbaugh’s only appearance in an AFC final game with Jackson came in vain two seasons ago, when Baltimore lost at home to Kansas City.

In 2025, the Ravens have won just one of their first six games.

A series of five wins followed, but it was not enough to properly position the team.
