Ravens & Harbaugh: End of an Era

The Baltimore Ravens have parted ways with their head coach John Harbaugh. The National Football League (NFL) franchise announced this on Tuesday. This ends a largely successful collaboration after 18 years together and a victory in the Super Bowl in 2012. Only Mike Tomlin from the Pittsburgh Steelers has been in office longer than Harbaugh was.

Baltimore must now look for a successor, who will be only the fourth head coach of the franchise since its founding in 1996. It should be an attractive task for many coaches, because the Ravens have a good squad around two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and could quickly be molded into a title contender again.

Harbaugh draws a lot of interest

On the other hand, Harbaugh probably won’t be out of a job for long unless he wants to take a break. The 63-year-old is considered the best available coaching candidate. According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, seven teams called Harbaugh’s agent within 45 minutes of the firing – although there are “only” six other open head coaching positions besides Baltimore. So at least one franchise with a head coach still inquired about Harbaugh and expressed interest. According to Schefter, he is already considered the favorite for the job by the New York Giants.
