Dro Fernandez leaves FC Barcelona and joins Paris Saint-Germain. The Champions League winner confirmed the transfer on Monday evening.
The 18-year-old Spaniard has signed a contract with the leaders of the French Ligue 1 until 2030. According to media reports, PSG is paying just more than the release clause of six million euros.
The transfer particularly angered Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick.
PSG beats Chelsea and Co
Fernandez was actually supposed to extend his contract with the Catalans, which expires in 2027, early in mid-January.
Instead of an agreement, the homegrown player is said to have informed the club of his desire to change.
The great internal competition and the lively interest from international clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are said to have convinced the Spanish U18 international to say goodbye.
Finally, the Parisians won the contract.
“Biggest disappointment of his life”
Already in the run-up to the LaLiga duel with Real Sociedad, Flick was furious and disappointed when asked about the possible departure of the top talent.
“I don’t want to answer that because as a coach you invest a lot of energy in the players, believe in them, help them develop. But I also know that there are people around the players. Sometimes you don’t agree with what they do. But they are 18, are old enough to make decisions. They have people around them,” said the German.
According to “Sport”, Flick is said to have spoken internally of one of the “biggest disappointments of his life”. Fernandez played five games for the professionals.
