Peter Wettergren: New SvFF Role | Football News

Peter Wettergren returns to the Swedish Football Association. He does so in a new role as Head of Coaching.

– It feels great to be back and I look forward to being able to share all the experience I have gathered as a leader in different environments over the years, says Peter Wettergren.

The Swedish Football Association is strengthening its sporting organization. After just over six months as assistant coach in Malmö FF, Peter Wettergren returns to SvFF, where he was previously technical director and before that for a long time assistant national team captain together with Janne Andersson.

In the assignment as Head of Coaching, which is a new role at SvFF, he will work to support, guide and develop confederation captains within SvFF. The role is central to ensuring common direction and the highest quality in sporting leadership, with an initial focus on the youth national teams on both the girls’ and boys’ side.

– We are very happy to have Peter back. He has a seniority shaped by long experience in Swedish and international football. With his personality and willingness to contribute and share, he is cut and dried for this role, says SvFF’s Football Manager Kim Källström.

Throughout his career, Peter Wettergren has been passionate about developing young people and looks forward to being a sounding board and support for the national youth team captains in his new role.
– My ambition is to participate in a gathering for each youth national team during the year. I want to contribute and help – not find fault, but be supportive. It’s about seeing our players and understanding what needs exist in order to, together with the clubs, develop the environments where the players are formed, he says.
He continues:
– I have had an instructive time in Malmö FF. It was important to get out into the club environment again. Now I bring that experience, together with the insights I gained during the years at Elfsborg, FC Copenhagen and the role of assistant national team captain, into this new role.

During his two years as technical director, Wettergren helped develop SvFF’s framework for Swedish player development, the Blue Thread, and he is well aware of the development journey Swedish football is currently on.

Peter Wettergren takes up his new position on Monday, February 2.
