OM Nantes: Marseille Nightmare & Champions Trophy Concerns

Olympique de Marseille will end this Sunday with a nice headache. The club coached by Roberto De Zerbi lost at the Vélodrome against FC Nantes (0-2) during the 17th day of Ligue 1. While collecting two red cards in the process.

The third in the championship is therefore losing ground on the Lensois leader and perhaps on PSG, which faces Paris FC this Sunday evening. But beyond the balance sheet, the way in which OM lost to Nantes (16th in the ranking after this success) is worrying.

OM upside down

The match started badly, with a goal denied to Nantes for an offside position (8th). On the action, Gerónimo Rulli, so important in the Marseille goal, made a blunder.

The sanction fell for good in the 31st minute, when Fabien Centonze pushed a ball pushed back by Gerónimo Rulli (0-1) into the back of the net. Nantes was already playing in numerical superiority, since Marseillais Arthur Vermeeren had received a red after his violent tackle on Anthony Lopes.

OM did not react in the right way after the break: this time, it was Bilal Nadir who left the field in tears after receiving two yellow cards in two minutes (54th, 56th).

Rémy Cabella, just recruited by FC Nantes, finished off the last Olympian hopes by converting a penalty conceded by Benjamin Pavard at the end of the match (88th, 0-2).

OM therefore prepared in the worst possible way for the Champions Trophy against PSG next Thursday in Kuwait.
